- Watering deeply (3 to 4 times a day) three days a week is key to success in 90+ degree days. Know your soil type and take account for slope if you have some, trying to avoid runoff.
- Water in the early morning, and once at dusk. Plants can only take in water with sunlight.
- Watering in mid day or hot afternoons can burn foliage.
- Maintain a 1.5 to 3 inch layer of organic mulch to aid in water retention and help keep the roots cool during hot weather. Be aware that river rock or decomposed granite 'ground cover' stores and reflects heat and will change the micro-climate of plants nearby.
